Who is behind
M57X8?

M57X8 is a one-person project. It exists because the information needed to put a ZF 8HP behind an E-Series M57 without an aftermarket controller was scattered across forums, private messages and guesswork, and one owner decided to do it properly and write it down.

I own and daily-drive the M57X8 development car: a BMW E90 330d with the M57N2 (306D3) engine, converted from its original gearbox to a ZF 8HP70 taken from an F10 530d donor. The integration uses BMW's own DDE, EGS and chassis modules, coded and configured to work together, rather than an emulator box that fakes the conversation between them.

I am not a BMW dealer, not affiliated with ZF, and not selling hardware. The guide is the documentation of what I did on this car, in the order I would do it again, including the things that did not work the first time. The known issues page is kept current for that reason.

How the guide is written

• Done on a real car first. Nothing in the guide is theoretical. The video on the homepage shows the development car driving with D, S and M modes, cruise control and LCI paddles working.
• Limitations disclosed. Where the integration is still being refined, the guide says so instead of hiding it.
• OEM-first. The approach keeps BMW modules talking to BMW modules. Where a third-party tool such as xHP is involved, its extra requirements are spelled out on the xHP and CAS page.
• Revised as the car evolves. Founding access includes future revisions of the guide.
